markrstirling A brilliant album from an artist at the absolute top of his game. As with all Adam’s music hypnotic and often industrial rhythms run side by side with a tenderness and humanity which is deeply affecting.

Every time I listen to the record I hear something more. From belting should be hits like “Phantom Billions” and “Atheist Money” to more experimental tracks like “Railway Trespassers” this is a classic album that deserves a wide audience.

Reference points include Steve Reich, Adrian Belew’s King Crimson , David Byrne/Brian Eno (My Life in the bush of Ghosts) and 1980s pop luminaries like Thomas Dolby. Truly though Adam Stafford is an original and brilliant artist. Don’t miss the chance to hear his music and see him live. He’s the real deal. Favorite track: Atheist Money.

about

Adam can be a little, er, experimental in his leanings and I remember when I first heard 'Vanishing Tanks' from Adam's previous album 'Imaginary Walls Collapse' all I could think was 'holy crap, he's gone pop - sort of'.

And I reckon once you hear 'Phantom Billions' you'll probably think the same thing - massive pop tune!

It's only ever 'sort of' with Adam and pop though. He's deliberately front-loaded this album with the four most upbeat and catchy pop songs, which are still pretty weird and disconcerting by anyone else's standards.

And then for Side B he delves back into the experimental, atmospheric chugs, clanks and loops which make his music so very idiosyncratic and the man himself such a messianic, captivating performer.
